Life Excitement

It’s like Christmas, but better. A new puppy on the way, stories in my head and an overwhelming amount of things to do! Today is the day of working on an old practice novel. My first NaNoWriMo was a story involving an Egyptologist, her bitter husband and an attractive mummy who is trying to rekindle the former glory of the Goddess she served. As this was a very long time ago, I’ve realized that my writing has improved since then. Plus, I’ve come up with better and more historically accurate things to reference. Egyptology has always been an interest of mine; ever since I had a very enthusiastic teacher in the eighth grade. Her enthusiasm infected most of the class, but I was the one who begged the science teacher to let us create an Archaeology club. We didn’t do much—most of our time was spent digging holes in a very accommodating dairy farmer’s field.

Looking back, that dairy farmer was a really nice lady. She let a bunch of American middle school children take over one of her fields to look for ancient walls. We never did find anything.

Back to the book!

Theresa Brooks is on her first solo expedition. Maxwell, her husband, sacrificed his career to help with hers; he accompanies her to every dig site and anchors her to modern life and reality. The years have taken their toll on the relationship, however. Maxwell finds himself disinterested, his passion for Theresa dwindling. Theresa knows something is wrong, but is torn between trying to repair her marriage and this fascinating new dig at Karnak!

Things are looking bleak in their relationship. That is, until the mummy goes missing from the museum. A rash of unexplained deaths and mysterious missing artifacts leaves the couple scrambling to catch up to a priestess of Mut; a woman who is willing to lie, cheat and kill to bring the worship of Mut back to modern humankind.
